Sustainable Building Design

Sustainable buildings have the following in common:

  • they minimise energy consumption
  • they minimise water consumption, and maximise water recycling
  • they do not harm the health of their occupants, and can enhance their wellbeing
  • they reduce ecological impacts and emissions

Historically, the catch-cry of many developers and builders was that a major premium had to be paid to ‘go green’. However, recent research has shown that the international consensus is that green buildings now cost only 2% more to design and construct. (source: ‘The Dollars and Sense of Green Buildings’, Green Building Council of Aust, 2006)

Coupled with the very small premium to build green, research also overwhelmingly points to sustainable buildings (such as Green Star [link] certified buildings) enjoying a market advantage over non-sustainable buildings, with all investors, developers and valuers believing that this advantage will increase in coming years. (source: ‘Valuing Green’, Green Building Council of Australia, 2008).

Green Door Environmental will help you to achieve a truly green building at an affordable price.
